When is it OK to Use Your Gut?
When should you throw critical thinking out the window and go with your gut? Gavin de Becker, author of The Gift of Fear , speaks in a recent podcast with Sam Harris about this very topic.
This podcast really caused me to introspect. As a contributor to a website dedicated to improving critical thought, this "do what feels right" approach seems counter to my principles. However, things change when you frame a context in which your safety is involved and a split-second decision is needed. In these moments we must not be hindered by political correctness or fear of offending someone. You can always apologize later.
We can view our intuitions and fear as a useful tool when quick decisions need to be made.
